  • About the role

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Finance Business Partner to join our Education Finance team. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to contribute to the financial management of the wider Education service and the Borough’s schools.

While experience in Local Government Finance or the Education sector is beneficial, it is not essential. We prioritize candidates who demonstrate professionalism, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence in financial management.

If you possess the necessary skills and are eager to drive continuous improvement and sound financial practices, we encourage you to apply.

    Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Finance Business Partner, you will be a key part of the Operational Finance team, responsible for providing comprehensive financial support and guidance to one of the Council’s Directorates. Your duties will include:

    • Budget Management & Financial Reporting

      • Assisting with budget creation, monitoring, and financial forecasting.
      • Handling and analysing financial data, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
      • Providing financial advice and effective challenge to budget holders and stakeholders.
      • Supporting the development of strategic financial plans and models, including the Medium-Term Financial Forecast (MTFF).
    • Operational Finance & Compliance

      • Ensuring adherence to financial regulations, standing orders, and internal processes.
      • Providing financial guidance to directorate teams to support informed decision-making.
      • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and grant providers.
      • Managing accounts, reconciliations, and supporting the closure of accounts.
    • Continuous Improvement & Development

      • Identifying areas for financial efficiency and supporting process improvements.
      • Keeping up to date with statutory financial requirements and best practices.
      • Contributing to staff training and financial inductions where required.

    About You

We are looking for a motivated finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have:

    • A Level 3 QCF/Diploma in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Experience working in a financial role, ideally within a public sector or education setting.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
    • A proactive approach to financial reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement.
    • Proficiency in financial management systems and Excel.

    Why Join Us?

    • Be part of a dynamic finance team that plays a crucial role in supporting education services.
    • Gain exposure to local government finance and enhance your strategic financial planning skills.
    • Access training and development opportunities to further your finance career.
    • Work in an environment that values professional growth, innovation, and collaboration.

If you’re ready to take on a challenging yet rewarding role in finance and contribute to the success of education services in the Borough, we’d love to hear from you.
