This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing Development Management team in a newly created position, following a transformation of our Planning Service.
As a Senior Planning Officer, you’ll handle a diverse portfolio of planning applications - ranging from complex minor developments to large-scale major proposals, depending on your experience. You'll be instrumental in delivering high-quality planning outcomes across the borough.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine planning applications in accordance with national and local policies.
- Provide expert planning advice through our pre-application advice service.
- Offer clear, accessible guidance to residents, applicants, colleagues, and councillors.
- Represent the Council in planning appeals, hearings, and public inquiries as required.
- Contribute to delivering high standards of customer service and efficient decision-making.

About You
We’re looking for a professional who is passionate about delivering excellent planning services and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You should be a confident communicator with a strong customer focus and the ability to manage competing demands effectively.
You will have:
- A degree or diploma in Town & Country Planning or a related field (e.g., geography, construction, architecture, or design).
- Membership of the RTPI, or be working towards it.
- Demonstrable experience in managing planning applications within a local authority setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organisational ability.
- Competence in using ICT and planning software systems.
