  • Are you looking to launch your career in finance while gaining a recognised qualification? Join Hillingdon Council as an Apprentice Finance Assistant and earn while you learn.

    Over the course of this apprenticeship programme (up to 2 years), you will complete the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship, including study towards the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

    You will join the Transactional Finance Service, supporting our Adult Social Care Financial Transactions teams across Debtors and Financial Assessments. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical finance experience within a large local authority while developing valuable technical and professional skills.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    As an Transactional Finance Support Apprentice , you will:

    Resident & Community Focus

    • Deliver excellent customer service in line with Hillingdon’s Customer Care Standards
    • Support prompt payments to social care clients and benefit recipients to help avoid financial hardship
    • Assist with timely payments to local businesses, helping support the borough’s economy

    Operational Delivery

    • Support the Corporate Debtors Service with the collection and recovery of invoices
    • Assist with invoice matching, credit note processing and supplier payments
    • Provide administrative support for the Social Care Provider Portal
    • Help ensure client financial assessments are processed accurately and efficiently
    • Work with financial systems including Excel, Word, general ledger, Payments and Debtors systems
    • Ensure all work complies with GDPR and Data Protection requirements
    • Gain knowledge of basic tax principles and their application to financial transactions
    • Maintain procedure notes and support responses to Freedom of Information requests
    • Contribute to service transformation and efficiency initiatives
    • Deliver accurate, high-quality work with a “right first time” approach

    Service Improvement

    • Suggest improvements to systems, processes and service delivery
    • Support the development of training materials and working procedures
    • Contribute to innovation and cross-functional working across teams

    About You

    We are looking for someone who is:

    • Passionate about building a career in finance
    • Organised and highly detail-focused
    • Confident using Microsoft Office and willing to learn new financial systems
    • A strong communicator, both written and verbal
    • Motivated to learn and successfully complete the AAT qualification within the apprenticeship timeframe
    • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
    • Proactive, reliable and committed to delivering high standards of work
