  • About the role

  • At Hillingdon, we are proud of our commitment to putting our residents first and ensuring they remain at the heart of everything we do. We are looking to attract talented individuals who share our ambitions and can help deliver exceptional services for residents, businesses and partners.

With an ambitious strategy for continuous improvement, we are focused on creating safer communities, supporting a thriving local economy, building a greener and more sustainable environment, and strengthening our digital capabilities. Working in London’s second-largest borough brings variety and challenge, with government reforms, financial pressures and political priorities ensuring no two days are the same.

We are looking for a Transactional Finance Visiting Officer to join our Financial Assessment Team. This is a rewarding frontline role supporting residents across the borough by helping them access financial assessments, complete finance forms and maximise their income through welfare benefit support.

The role involves visiting residents in the community, including older people and residents with physical and/or mental disabilities, providing practical support in a professional, empathetic and customer-focused way.

As a Transactional Finance Visiting Officer, you will:

    • Visit residents in their homes or support them over the telephone to complete finance forms and provide welfare benefit advice
    • Carry out financial assessments for pre-service and active cases in line with service requirements
    • Support residents to maximise their income through welfare benefit take-up
    • Take a holistic approach during visits, referring residents to other services or agencies where appropriate
    • Ensure accurate and timely data entry and record management
    • Provide administrative support to assist with financial assessment processes
    • Run reports and support managers with performance monitoring, statistical analysis and maintaining data quality
    • Maintain an understanding of Adult Social Care charging policies, Care Act legislation and welfare benefits
    • Communicate effectively with residents, colleagues and external agencies
    • Ensure all work is completed in line with GDPR and confidentiality requirements

    About You

You will be a compassionate, organised and customer-focused individual with strong communication skills and the ability to work sensitively with vulnerable residents.

You will be confident working independently in the community and able to manage a varied workload while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.

The successful candidate must hold a full valid UK driving licence and have daily access to a vehicle, Monday to Friday. Appropriate motor insurance must also be in place, as you will be expected to use your vehicle for business use daily, visiting residents in their home.

Given the sensitivity of the data being handled, full awareness and compliance with GDPR is imperative.

    Knowledge & Experience

    • Experience working in a customer-focused environment
    • Experience supporting vulnerable residents or working within Adult Social Care, welfare benefits or financial assessment services
    • Understanding of welfare benefits and their impact on Adult Social Care clients
    • Knowledge of Adult Social Care charging policies and Care Act legislation
    • Experience carrying out administrative tasks and maintaining accurate records
    • Good IT skills and confidence using databases and systems
    • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately

    Skills & Attributes

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong customer service skills with a compassionate and patient approach
    • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
    • Accurate and efficient data entry skills
    • Flexible and adaptable approach to work
    • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
    • Ability to build positive working relationships with residents, colleagues and partner agencies
    • Receptive to change and new technology

    Additional Information

The role involves regular travel across the borough to visit residents in the community.

You may also be required to support other teams in line with service demands and complete other reasonable duties in order to fulfil the purpose of the role.
