  • About the role

  • We are looking for a proactive and motivated Litigation Case Officer to join our Legal Services team on a fixed term basis for up to 21 months. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a large and varied housing litigation caseload, including possession proceedings, disrepair claims, and prosecution work. You’ll play a vital role in helping the Council achieve timely and cost-effective legal outcomes that support our residents and services. 
     
    This is a fast-paced and demanding area of work, requiring excellent time management, a solution-focused mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
     
    Key Responsibilities:
     
    • Manage a high-volume caseload of housing litigation matters under strict deadlines.
    • Draft and prepare legal documentation including court pleadings, claims and statements.
    • Attend court hearings (including advocacy) and liaise directly with the courts and client departments.
    • Assist with bundling, filing, serving of documents and day-to-day legal admin duties.
    • Work closely with internal departments and external third parties to progress cases efficiently.
    • Ensure compliance with legislative, procedural, and ethical standards in all casework.
    • Identify risks and manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion.
    • Contribute to service improvement by developing templates, procedures, and reporting tools.
    • Help maintain financial efficiency and secure cost-effective outcomes for the Council.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the confidence to draft legal documentation and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders. A sound understanding of housing litigation and court procedures is essential, along with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, professionalism, and integrity.
