  • About the role

  • At Hillingdon Council, putting our residents first is at the heart of everything we do. We are now seeking a compassionate, organised, and motivated Crematorium Office Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Crematorium office. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring high-quality services for our community while supporting families through some of their most difficult times.

    About the Role

As Crematorium Office Manager, you will:

    • Lead and manage a small administrative team (3 FTEs), responsible for recruitment, training, appraisals, and professional development.

    • Provide sensitive, efficient, and customer-focused support to residents, bereaved families, and visitors.

    • Oversee daily office operations including income validation, record-keeping, correspondence, and safeguarding critical documentation.

    • Deputise for the Crematorium Manager & Registrar in their absence, ensuring continuity of service.

    • Support and coordinate community events such as the Annual Remembrance Service, Easter and Christmas memorials.

    • Propose and implement improvements to administrative systems and processes to drive efficiency and enhance the resident experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure statutory and non-statutory records are accurately maintained, including memorialisation records and complaints/compliments logs.

    • Coordinate chapel services and witness scattering of cremated remains when required.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders including funeral directors, clergy, medical referees, contractors, and members of the public.

    • Assist with budget management, procurement, invoicing, and income generation.

    • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and promote a safe working environment.

    About You

We are looking for a professional who can combine strong administrative expertise with empathy and compassion. You will need to demonstrate:

    • Experience in leading and developing a team within a sensitive, customer-focused environment.

    • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Confidence in handling financial processes and maintaining statutory records with accuracy.

    • Ability to deputise for senior management and manage operational challenges effectively.

    • A proactive approach to identifying improvements and implementing change.
