  • About the role

  • We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Manager to join our team at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Safeguarding team, ensuring that team plans and performance targets are delivered, and maintaining a culture of putting our residents first and continuous service improvement. The role also involves ensuring that the Independent Reviewing service is delivered according to national and local regulations and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • People Management: Select, develop, and manage the performance of the Safeguarding Team in line with the Council’s HR policies. Provide line management supervision and guidance to up to 10 Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) and Child Protection Advisors (CPAs).
    • Service Delivery: Ensure high-level delivery of independent reviews for Looked After Children and effective Child Protection conferences. Collaborate with other parts of the service and the partnership to resolve disputes related to Independent Reviews and Child Protection Conferences.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with other parts of the service and the partnership to pre-empt and resolve disputes relating to the Independent Reviews and Child Protection Conferences.
    • Escalation: Escalate any patterns and issues identified in the service to the Head of Safeguarding.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree level and relevant professional qualification or equivalent (e.g., Diploma in Social Work).
    • Current SWE registered Social Worker.
    • Experience of Social Work at a Senior level.
    • Experience in managing teams and successfully chairing complex professional meetings.
    • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including some work outside of usual hours.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Comprehensive understanding of relevant statutory provisions and the Council/Safeguarding Partnership constitution.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver improved outcomes for residents.
    • Excellent ICT skills, including the ability to learn and use service-specific software.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage budgets effectively and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
