  • About the role

  • We are inviting applications from motivated and enthusiastic Food and Health and Safety Practitioners who can work independently and adapt to evolving ways of working.

    You will join a busy Food, Health and Safety Team, delivering inland food law enforcement and health and safety regulation as part of a wider Food and Safety Regulation Service, which also carries out official food controls at London Heathrow Airport.

    Based in Uxbridge, you will benefit from excellent transport links including tube and bus services, as well as easy access to the M25, M40 and M4, with a range of local amenities nearby.

    In this role, you will:

    • Carry out food and health and safety inspections and investigations

    • Respond to complaints and referrals

    • Prepare case files for formal enforcement action

    • Work across a variety of settings including approved and manufacturing premises, event safety and on-farm dairy

    You will also be required to work occasionally outside normal hours and take part in a standby Environmental Health rota, for which additional payments are made.

    About the person

    We are looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a strong understanding of food safety and health and safety legislation, and a commitment to developing their skills and expertise.

    You will:

    • Be confident working independently while managing your own workload

    • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making

    • Be flexible, organised and able to meet deadlines

    • Work effectively as part of a team

    • Be confident using IT systems

    You must hold a degree or equivalent in Environmental Health, meet the Food Law Code of Practice competency requirements, and hold a full driving licence.

    Further Information

    • Market Factor payment of £3,000 per annum (non-contractual)

    • Standby payments of £181.55 per session (non-contractual)

    • 36-hour working week

    • Part-time and fixed-term options considered
