  • About the role

  • Make a Real Impact on Your Community
We’re looking for a proactive, motivated Waste Supervisor to help lead the delivery of high‑quality waste and recycling services across the borough. If you’re passionate about operational excellence, take pride in keeping local areas clean, and enjoy motivating frontline teams - this is a great opportunity to step into a role that truly makes a difference for our residents.

    The Role
As a Waste Supervisor, you will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of household waste, recycling, food waste, bulky waste and trade waste collections. You will lead teams of operatives and drivers, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

You will be a key point of contact for residents, internal services and partners - helping resolve issues, drive performance, and uphold our commitment to excellent customer experience.

    What You’ll Be Doing
    • Supervising daily waste and recycling operations across the borough
    • Leading, motivating and developing a frontline team of around 30 staff (circa 140 total)
    • Managing attendance, conduct, training, briefings and toolbox talks
    • Monitoring service delivery through inspections, GPS data and feedback
    • Allocating staff, routes, vehicles and equipment to maximise service performance
    • Responding to missed collections, service requests and resident enquiries
    • Ensuring health & safety, statutory standards and ‘O’ Licence requirements are met
    • Supporting route optimisation, operational improvements and service planning
    • Maintaining accurate records (timesheets, route changes, deployment data)
    • Contributing to recycling initiatives and community engagement
    • Supporting emergency responses and occasional out‑of‑hours duties

    About You
You’ll bring leadership, resilience, and a “can‑do” attitude to a fast‑paced operational environment. You’ll be confident supervising large teams, solving problems on the ground, and delivering strong customer‑focused services.

    Essential Skills & Experience
    • Experience supervising a large frontline team (30+)
    • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation
    • Experience working in a resident‑facing or customer‑focused service
    • Ability to manage performance, resolve issues, and motivate staff
    • Good ICT skills, with the ability to use systems to track performance and service data
    • Excellent communication skills with a range of audiences
    • Full UK driving licence and ability to access sites across the borough
    Desirable
    • ILM Level 3 or equivalent
    • Knowledge of waste services legislation, quality management and ‘O’ Licence requirements
    • Experience coordinating route planning for waste or similar operational services

    Why Join Us?
    • Play a vital role in supporting frontline services that residents rely on every day
    • Work with a committed, supportive management team
    • Opportunities to influence service improvements and innovation
    • A role where no two days are the same
    • Access to training, development and career progression pathways
