Fire it up! Become an Apprentice!

Would you like the opportunity to earn while you learn and work for London’s second largest borough? We are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated applicants to join our Apprenticeship Programme within Legal Services - one role in the Commercial Team and one in the People Team.

At Hillingdon Council, we recognise that there are many paths to a successful career in the public sector. Our apprenticeship programme is designed to develop your skills, provide practical experience and support you as you progress to the next stage of your career.

No two days at Hillingdon are the same. During your apprenticeship you will gain valuable experience, build confidence and develop the knowledge and qualifications that will help you stand out to future employers.

The Council’s Apprenticeship Scheme will give you hands-on experience of legal work while studying for your CILEx Level 3 qualification.

You will work as part of the Legal Services team, supporting experienced lawyers and undertaking real legal work across a range of areas including property, housing, civil litigation, contracts, social care, education, planning, information governance and licensing.

You will be based in the office five days per week, developing your practical skills while working towards your CILEx qualification.

Throughout the programme you will also develop key professional skills including:

    • Team working

    • Communication

    • Organisation

    • Legal research and drafting

    • Time management

    • Project management

    • Customer service and client care

    • File management

The CILEx qualification is an ideal stepping stone for individuals who wish to begin a career in law without following the traditional university route.

We are committed to supporting apprentices with a positive “can-do” attitude who are motivated to succeed.

    About the Apprentice

We are delighted to offer two fixed-term contracts to successful candidates who share our commitment to putting our residents first.

Over the two-year apprenticeship, you will gain extensive experience across a variety of local government legal areas, including:

    • Childcare

    • Education

    • Planning

    • Landlord and tenant

    • Homelessness

    • Information governance

You will receive on-the-job training across a range of council services, gaining valuable knowledge and practical experience that will support your career development.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to understand how legal services support the delivery of public services and ensure that council decisions and services meet the needs of our residents.

If you are looking for a varied and rewarding career in law, this apprenticeship could be the perfect starting point.

You will study towards a Level 3 Paralegal qualification during the programme.

We welcome applications from people of all ages. Whether you are just starting your career or returning to work, we would encourage you to apply.

Most importantly, if you have the passion, ambition and aptitude to build a career in law, and do not already hold an equivalent or higher qualification in this field, we would love to hear from you.

This Apprenticeship Programme provides an excellent entry point into the legal profession.
