  • About the role

  • Working as part of a small team, the successful candidate will offer information, advice and assistance to families with a child or young person up to the age of 19 (or 25 for young people with special educational needs or a disability). This would involve providing advice to families via telephone, email and in person. This advice would be about finding and paying for childcare and early education and other services that may be of benefit to them.

    The focus of this role will be on implementing the early years entitlements funding for under-fives. This will involve:

    • Advising parents on how to access the entitlements and raising awareness of them e.g. through outreach
    • Working with childcare providers and schools to ensure that they make accurate claims for funding, in line with deadlines
    • Auditing childcare providers and schools to make sure they comply with the conditions of funding for the early years entitlement

    You will also:

    • Update and maintain databases about Ofsted registered childcare
    • Update the council’s family information directory and SEND Local Offer websites
    • Deliver outreach in the local community, particularly to reach disadvantaged families.

    About the person

    The successful applicant will be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) with Maths and English. A qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance is also desirable.

    You will have demonstrable knowledge
    and understanding of the problems and difficulties faced by families and the ability to help them find constructive solutions.

    You will have excellent communication skills and an
    ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact and diplomacy in person, by phone and in writing. You will need a positive and proactive approach to work. You will also be a competent ICT user, with experience of using management information systems and databases. Good organisational skills are also essential.
