  • About the role

  • Make a difference in Hillingdon. Join our dedicated Forensic Mental Health Social Work team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Hillingdon Council as an Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) working within our Forensic Mental Health Adult Social Work Service. We are seeking a committed, professional and experienced AMHP to support adults in secondary and forensic mental health services.

You will work as part of a small, specialist team within the wider Adult Mental Health Social Work Service. In this dual role, you’ll act as a Forensic Social Worker and also participate in the AMHP rota, carrying out Mental Health Act assessments.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Delivering high-quality Social Work support to adults with complex mental health needs

    • Acting as a Social Supervisor and working with mentally disordered offenders

    • Working closely with our local Forensic Services and contributing to MAPPA processes

    • Advocating for service users’ rights and supporting their recovery and independence

    • Collaborating with families, carers, and multi-agency professionals

    • Supporting discharge planning and delivering care in the community

We work holistically with individuals, families and communities to achieve the best outcomes. You’ll contribute to a whole-system response, promoting coordinated care and continuous service improvement.

    What We Offer

We value the expertise that AMHPs and Forensic Social Workers bring. That’s why our practicing AMHPs are recognised as Advanced Social Work Practitioners. As part of the team, you’ll benefit from:

    • A competitive starting salary

    • Manageable caseloads and regular supervision

    • Access to monthly support and an established AMHP forum

    • Annual AMHP-specific training and extensive CPD opportunities

    • A supportive and professional environment that encourages innovation and learning

    About You

    We’re looking for someone with:

    • AMHP qualification and experience

    • Proven experience working with mentally disordered offenders

    • Experience as a Social Supervisor

    • Excellent communication and advocacy skills

    • A flexible, proactive approach and strong professional values

Above all, you’ll be passionate about improving lives and delivering the right support to residents when they need it most.

If you’re ready to bring your skills and experience to a team that truly values your expertise, we’d love to hear from you.
Please see the attached Job Profile for full details and requirements.
