  • About the role

  • We’re looking for an experienced Internal Audit Assistant Manager to join our high-performing Internal Audit team here at Hillingdon Council. This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in delivering a wide range of risk-based and advisory reviews that help strengthen and improve the Council’s services for residents.

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll manage your own portfolio of audits from scoping to reporting, ensuring each review is completed to a high standard, on time and within budget. You’ll supervise junior auditors, provide coaching and support, and play an active role in enhancing our internal audit methodology and service delivery.

You’ll work closely with senior managers, corporate directors, and elected members, providing insight and recommendations that drive positive change and improve governance, risk management, and internal controls across the Council.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Delivering and supervising risk-based and advisory audits across a diverse range of council services.

    • Producing high-quality reports and evidence-based findings, with practical recommendations.

    • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.

    • Using data analytics to enhance the effectiveness and impact of your work.

    • Playing a key role in developing the Internal Audit Plan and wider service improvements.

    • Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

    • Supporting the Head of Internal Audit with reporting and governance activities.

    About You

    We’re looking for someone who:

    • Has proven experience in internal audit (preferably in the public sector or a large organisation).

    • Understands audit methodology, internal control frameworks, and risk-based auditing.

    • Is confident working independently and managing multiple audits simultaneously.

    • Has strong analytical skills and is comfortable using data to inform audit work.

    • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences.

    • Has experience mentoring or supervising others.

    • Is motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous service improvement.

Professional qualifications (e.g. CMIIA, CIA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) and knowledge of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS) are highly desirable.

Apply today and be part of a team that’s shaping better services for our community through robust and insightful internal audit work.
