  • About the role

  • We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice to join our Electoral and Registration Service.

    This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy and varied service, supporting the delivery of electoral and registration functions while developing your administrative and customer service skills.

    You will play a key role in supporting the team with day-to-day operations, dealing with enquiries and providing high-quality administrative support.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Dealing with enquiries from members of the public, internal departments and external organisations on registration and electoral matters, and responding to correspondence as required

    • Providing general clerical support including dealing with post, filing, scanning and photocopying

    • Supporting improvements in service delivery through feedback and data analysis

    • Developing IT skills and using systems effectively to support service delivery

    • Ensuring all council policies and procedures are followed, including equal opportunities, health and safety, inclusion and safeguarding

    Administrative Support (Registrars)

    • Receiving and making telephone calls and taking messages

    • Dealing with customer and colleague enquiries

    • Using databases and bespoke systems

    • Collating, photocopying and distributing documentation

    • Creating and maintaining accurate records

    • Updating documentation and systems

    • Arranging meetings, taking notes and distributing papers where required

    • Gathering and chasing information

    • Supporting financial processes using SAP systems

    • Undertaking ad hoc administrative duties as required

    You will be keen to learn, organised and able to work effectively in a team environment.

    You will demonstrate:

    • Good communication skills and the ability to deal with a range of enquiries

    • A willingness to develop IT skills and work with different systems

    • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records

    • A proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement

    • An understanding of the importance of customer service and delivering high standards

    You will also demonstrate an understanding of the Council’s Customer Care Standards and a commitment to putting residents first.

    • No direct supervisory responsibility
