  • We are proud to announce that Hillingdon’s Children's Services have recently received an Outstanding rating from OFSTED, a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care and support for children and families. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Fostering Panel as Independent Panel Members. This role offers the unique opportunity to significantly impact the lives of vulnerable children by ensuring they are placed in the best possible care.
     
    Key Responsibilities:
    • To participate actively in fostering panel meetings on a rota basis.
    • To engage in Panel induction, attend mandatory training and ongoing annual training relevant to the role.
    • To engage in an annual self-appraisal.
    • To support the review and recommendation process for fostering cases, ensuring all decisions are made in the best interests of children and young people.
    • To read the Panel paperwork submitted for each agenda item and prepare questions for applicants to support a recommendation.
    • To work collaboratively with the Panel Chair, Panel Advisor, Social Work professionals, fostering teams, and other stakeholders.
    • To ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to fostering and child welfare.
    • Raise questions and concerns, contributing to a thorough and careful decision-making process.
    • To provide post-Panel feedback to the Fostering Service in relation to practice and performance, and to escalate issues of concern.
    • To uphold a commitment to challenging discrimination and promoting anti-discriminatory practices.
    • To ensure confidentiality of panel discussions and documents. 
    An Independent Panel Member will need to: 
    • Have the ability to identify key issues, problems and solutions.
    • To contribute to the Panel’s recommendations, being clear about the reasons for making them.
    • Sensitive regard to a fair and transparent process for foster care’s whilst ensuring the welfare of the child is paramount.
    • Have an ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
    • Have an ability to respectfully challenge others and maintain a child-focused approach. 
    Experience 
    • No prior experience on fostering panels required; however, transferable skills are essential.
    • Have some understanding of the Fostering process either personal or professional.
    • Have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

    Remuneration:

    • Half Day: £100
    • Full Day: £200

    An additional payment of £25 for attending Panel Business meetings (3 times per year) and annual appraisals where these fall outside of scheduled panel days.
