  • About the role

  • Auditor for Children’s Social Care to lead a high‑quality programme of case file audits and drive continuous improvement in practice across the service. You will provide independent, evidence‑based assurance on the quality, consistency, and impact of social work practice, helping ensure that children and families receive high‑quality, safe and effective support.
This is a role for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes and who thrives on deep analysis, professional curiosity and influencing high‑quality practice across a complex system.

    What You’ll Be Doing

Lead and Coordinate the Audit Programme

    • Manage the full programme of case file audits, thematic audits, and dip samples across all service areas.
    • Set and maintain audit standards, commission monthly cohorts, and monitor timeliness and quality of completion.
    • Embed triangulation through child/family and partner feedback, including targeted interviews where required.
    • Contribute to moderation and calibration activity to support consistent, high‑quality evaluation.
    • Produce clear, concise audit overview reports, with evidence-based evaluations and SMART actions.

Drive Practice Improvement and Organisational Learning

    • Facilitate reflective discussions with auditors, managers and practitioners to enhance practice quality.
    • Refresh and refine QA tools, standards and guidance alongside the Principal Social Worker and operational leaders.
    • Synthesise themes and learning into briefings, good practice resources and learning loops.

    Strengthen Governance and Inspection Readiness

    • Assure compliance with statutory guidance, local policy and the Quality Assurance Framework.
    • Contribute to multi‑agency audits and work in partnership to strengthen safeguarding practice.

    Data, Insight and Reporting

    • Analyse quantitative and qualitative audit data, identifying trends, themes and risks.
    • Provide dashboards and briefings to leadership and practice forums.
    • Track and report progress against audit action plans and escalate risks where necessary

    What We’re Looking For

    Experience

We’re looking for someone with substantial post‑qualifying experience in children’s social work, with strong skills in safeguarding, complex assessments and quality assurance. You will have experience leading or contributing to service‑wide audit programmes, presenting findings to senior leaders and using reflective learning approaches to build practice confidence and capability.

    Knowledge & Skills

    You will bring:

    • Strong understanding of Ofsted evaluation frameworks and what “good” looks like in children’s social care.
    • Excellent analytical, written and presentation skills, with the ability to turn evidence into clear insight and recommendations.
    • Confidence in facilitating reflective learning and coaching.
    • High digital literacy, including use of Microsoft 365, case recording systems, Excel and audit data dashboards.

    Professional Standards

The role requires independence from operational line management and a strong commitment to professional ethics, child‑centred practice, strengths‑based approaches and inclusivity.
