  • About the role

  • Hillingdon Council is recruiting an Allocations Team Manager to lead the delivery of housing allocations and the housing register. This is a critical role at the heart of the housing system - ensuring that limited housing stock is allocated fairly, efficiently and in line with policy and legislation. You will play a key role in improving access to housing, supporting move-on from temporary accommodation and contributing to MTFS outcomes.

Make fair decisions. Maximise impact. Improve outcomes.

    About the opportunity

You will lead the Allocations team, responsible for managing the housing register and delivering allocations across Council and partner housing stock. This is a fast-paced leadership role requiring strong judgement, knowledge of housing legislation and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-demand environment.

    You will:

    • Lead and develop a high-performing allocations team
    • Oversee the housing register, banding assessments and application verification
    • Manage Choice Based Lettings, direct offers and nominations to Registered Providers
    • Ensure allocations are fair, transparent and compliant with legislation and policy
    • Improve throughput and reduce delays in allocations and offers
    • Support move-on from temporary accommodation through effective use of stock
    • Use data to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
    Why this role matters

This role directly shapes access to housing.

    You will:

    • Ensure homes are allocated fairly and effectively
    • Improve speed and quality of allocation decisions
    • Support households to move on from temporary accommodation
    • Improve system flow and reduce delays
    • Contribute to MTFS savings and service performance

    Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a confident and experienced leader who can manage performance and make sound decisions in a complex service.

    You will bring:

    • Experience in housing allocations, lettings or homelessness services
    • Strong understanding of housing legislation and allocations policy
    • Experience managing teams in high-demand operational environments
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage performance
    • Ability to manage risk and make defensible decisions

    We want leaders who:

    • Take ownership and deliver outcomes
    • Are confident decision-makers
    • Drive performance and continuous improvement
    • Work collaboratively across the system

    What you can expect

    • A high-impact role shaping housing access and outcomes
    • The opportunity to improve allocations and housing pathways
    • A central role in service transformation and MTFS delivery
    • Supportive leadership and development opportunities
    • Flexible and modern working arrangements

Why Hillingdon?  We are a stable, ambitious council investing in housing services and leadership to meet demand and deliver better outcomes for residents.

Interested? If you’re ready to lead a critical service, make fair decisions and improve outcomes for residents, we want to hear from you.
