The Community Impacts Officer plays a key role in building resilient, inclusive and safe communities across the borough. Working closely with residents, voluntary and faith organisations, statutory partners and council services, the post supports community cohesion, hate crime prevention, counter-extremism activity and the monitoring of community tensions.
The role acts as a link between diverse communities and the Council, ensuring community voices are heard, risks are identified early, and proportionate, preventative interventions are developed. You will support engagement with less frequently heard groups, coordinate multi-agency responses, contribute to local strategies and action plans, and use data and community insight to inform decision-making, strengthen relationships and prevent escalation of tensions.
This is a critical role within the service, bringing together community cohesion, Prevent and hate crime priorities, and ensuring a proactive, intelligence-led approach to supporting communities and reducing harm.
Key Responsibilities

Support delivery of community cohesion priorities, working in partnership with residents, faith groups and community organisations

Build strong relationships with less frequently heard communities and ensure their voices inform service delivery

Coordinate and support multi-agency responses to community tensions, hate crime and cohesion issues

Monitor emerging risks and community tensions, using data and insight to support early intervention and prevention

Support the development and delivery of local strategies, action plans and awareness initiatives, including Hate Crime programmes

Work closely with partners including police, schools, voluntary sector organisations and internal services to promote safe and inclusive communities

Facilitate forums, engagement activity and training to build community resilience and understanding

Contribute to reporting, performance monitoring and continuous service improvement

You will:

Have experience working in community engagement, cohesion, safeguarding or a related area

Understand the issues around community tensions, hate crime and extremism

Be confident working with partners across statutory and voluntary sectors

Be able to gather, analyse and use data and insight to inform decisions

Have strong communication skills and the ability to engage diverse communities

Be proactive, adaptable and able to respond to emerging issues quickly
